Josh Schmidt is a Colorado native and an avid mountaineer, climber and cyclist. He has been married over 20 years and have two adventurous teenagers.

Josh received his BA in Psychology from the University of Colorado in 2001. Early in his career, Josh was a professional rafting, mountaineering and climbing guide and program director for a Colorado adventure company. Shortly after, he and his wife spent a year working and exploring beautiful New Zealand.

Upon returning, Josh attended Denver Seminary and received his MA in Counseling. After graduating, he served nine years as a pastor to students and families at a local Denver church. Throughout that time, Josh continued to develop his passion and skill set around counseling.

Josh began Belay Counseling and Coaching, LLC in 2016. This new professional chapter has allowed him to step further into his sweet spot of genuinely partnering with adolescents, adults and families in areas of deep personal and relational transformation.

Josh integrates cognitive-behavioral, person-centered and narrative therapies into his counseling approach. He is eager and competent in working with people of different backgrounds and faiths. Josh's personal conviction is anchored in the belief that deepest, truest internal and relational restoration grows out of a personal walk with God. This worldview shapes his passion for and intentionality with people, but he is careful to only talk about spiritual matters at the initiation of his clients.

Ultimately, Josh is a guide at heart, and his passion is to journey with people toward healing and wholehearted living.
